Friends of Maddingley Park

The Maddingley Park Committee of Management Botanical Committee was formed in 2003 with the prime aim of improving the botanical and passive recreation aspects of the Park.

Plan of rose garden.

Planning commenced immediately and Bluestone blocks were sourced and laid.

Volunteers from the Committee of Management and FoMP prepared the soil, after rotary hoeing, by adding bull manure from the local Genetic bull farm together with the generous donations from Neutrog of “Rapid Raiser”.

The beds were ready for planting in July 06. Deciding on the bed formats and planting options was difficult given that all roses are beautiful!!

However we decided to plant the three large beds relating to color blends of, 1 ) Cream to apricot; 2)  Pink tones ; 3) Burgundy through to mauves, with the fence lines covered with diverse colors of climbing species.

We were fortunate enough to receive a $2000 grant from "Australian's Open Garden Scheme" in August 2005 to assist with our rose planting costs.

Donations were also received from the public and plaques are being prepared to acknowledge all contributions and will be displayed in the garden.

We experienced many problems immediately after planting and the Burgundy/mauve bed seemed to suffer most. We believe it was a combination of lack of water and possum damage.

Rose arbours were planned and construction commenced in April 2008. This will form an arch to enter the rose garden and we believe should be popular for wedding photographs once established.

The seated arbour in the corner should also be a popular location for photographs once the climbing roses are established.

Packing sand was laid in September 2008 to establish a better working base for our final path surface prior to the official Moorabool Council opening. This was organized to recognize the funding provided by the State Government for the path, lighting and utility upgrade in the Park.

October 2008, showing obvious progress.

March 2009, we are very pleased with the growth and advances made in the last year.
